Emma Wasonga

Kenya & Rhodes University, 2024

The world is in need of a new breed of storytellers, driven by the desire to make an impact. Emma stands at the forefront of this movement as a digital-first, multimedia storyteller that aspires to guide Africa into an illuminated future through thought leadership. Her passion lies in crafting human interest stories. She has channeled this passion into The Fountain Media, an online platform she co-founded in 2021. This platform acts as a gathering ground for young storytellers, empowering them to create narratives that act as catalysts for change.

She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelors degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Nairobi. Her time as a student broadcaster was marked by her deep involvement in student leadership. She was the producer and host of a TV talk show series, "Leadership Lens," which culminated in a presidential debate. This show was born from the necessity of encouraging informed political participation among Kenyan university students, motivating them to exercise their voting rights and seek value-based leadership.

She has extensively presented and reported on pertinent issues such as climate change adaptation, innovation, education, governance, and human rights. Emma's passion for public discourse is a long-standing one, as she has been an avid debater since her high school years, participating in national debating contests. Emma joins the MRF, from a Christian institution where she served as Media Director. Her pursuit of knowledge and excellence continues as she embarks on a journey to pursue a Master of Arts in Media Theory and Practice.
