Adrian Paulsen

External Relations Officer, Mandela Rhodes Foundation

A Mandela Rhodes scholar, Adrian earned a Master's degree in geography with a focus on food security and GIS. This academic background provides a strong foundation in spatial data analysis and systems thinking, which informs their approach to complex projects across various sectors. Adrian’s career is distinguished by five years of experience in data science and five years in marketing and advertising, blending analytical rigour with creative problem-solving to achieve impactful outcomes.

As a Mandela Rhodes scholar, Adrian holds a Master’s degree in geography, specialising in food security and GIS. This background gives them a unique perspective on spatial data and systems, shaping their approach to problem-solving across various industries. With five years in data science and another five in marketing, Adrian thrives at the intersection of numbers and narrative.

Adrian’s work in the education sector includes consulting for NGOs like Future Pathways Consultants, where they designed and led stakeholder engagements, and Save the Children, where they contributed to advocacy programs focused on 21st-century classroom skills. They’re also an active collaborator with the Black Geographers Collective, helping amplify marginalised voices through design and communication projects.

Outside of work, Adrian is a lifelong learner. They’re diving into isiZulu, exploring Python, and regularly publishing articles on their blog or collaborating on academic projects. Passionate about making a difference, Adrian brings curiosity, creativity, and a results-driven mindset to everything they do.
