My story of MRF impact: Fanidh Sanogo

2020 was when my MRF journey started. At the time, I had just graduated from the African Leadership University in Mauritius with a degree in Social Sciences. I had no idea how this new journey would turn out, but I was ready for some radical growth. I was fortunate enough to have other scholarship offers but I chose the Mandela Rhodes Foundation because it was the only institution that treated me humanely, from the interview process to the end of my second-year program. You see, the MRF was the teacher I did not know I needed. Through their workshops, I was able to discover aspects of myself I was too afraid of exploring, giving me the courage to clearly see the texture and landscape of my mind. I met the kindest and most intelligent young people, some of whom are still my closest friends today. Beyond their intention to make sure every scholar understands the importance of self-awareness, hard work and compassion, the MRF’s Pan-African agenda makes the MRF one of the most authentic funding institutions on the African continent. For decades now, the continent has hugely suffered from a tragic brain drain. Institutions like the MRF make it possible for young and alert minds to gain quality education without leaving Africa. This is why I chose MRF and would choose it again!

C’est en 2020 que j’ai commencé mon parcours avec MRF. À l’époque, je venais d’obtenir un diplôme en sciences sociales de l’Université Africaine de Leadership à Maurice. Je ne savais pas comment ce nouveau voyage allait se dérouler, mais j’étais prête pour une croissance radicale. J’ai eu la chance d’avoir d’autres offres de bourses, mais j’ai choisi la fondation Mandela Rhodes parce que c’était la seule institution qui ne me réduisait pas à mon CV ou mes notes. Du processus d’entrevue à la fin de mon programme de deuxième année, la fondation m’a traité humainement. Grâce à leurs ateliers, j’ai pu découvrir des aspects de moi-même que j’avais trop peur d’explorer, me donnant le courage de voir clairement la texture et le paysage de mon mental. J’ai aussi rencontré d’autres jeunes Africains gentils et très intelligents, dont certains sont encore mes amis les plus proches aujourd’hui. Au-delà de leur intention de s’assurer que chaque universitaire comprend l’importance de la conscience de soi, du travail acharné et de la compassion, le programme panafricain du MRF fait d’elle l’une des institutions de financement les plus authentiques du continent africain. Depuis des décennies, ce continent souffre énormément d’un exode tragique des cerveaux. Des institutions comme MRF permettent aux jeunes esprits alertes d’obtenir une éducation de qualité sans quitter l’Afrique. Voilà pourquoi j’ai choisi MRF, et je la choisirais encore!
