Abigail Branford
South Africa & University of Cape Town, 2015 Since finishing my Honours degree at UCT at the end of 2015, I took up an internship with Shelley Barry in producing social documentary films. For most of 2016 I was engaged in this internship, learning how to conceptualise, pitch, shoot and edit documentaries. The films I worked on overwhelmingly had a gender focus including films on street harassment, intersex activism and queer performers in Cape Town. During this time I also continued as President of the Gender And Sex Project, leading the growing team which facilitates workshops in schools on gender issues. In October 2016, I took up the Skye Cambridge and Magdalene Mandela Scholarship to study my Master’s in Education at Cambridge, specialising in how history is taught in post-conflict societies.
