Ané Kotzé

South Africa & University of Cape Town, 2025

Ané holds a BSc in Biotechnology from the University of the Western Cape as well as a B(Med)Sc Honours Degree in Infectious Diseases and Immunology from the University of Cape Town, South Africa.

The passionate scientist is now pursuing a master’s in medical Virology at the Institute of Infectious Diseases and Molecular Medicine at UCT.

Her research is focused on HIV, specifically investigating how the virus mutates and what drives immune evasion.

Her love for medicine and science stems from her own diagnosis as a Type 1 Diabetic when she was 11 years old. The suffering her family went through, and not knowing how to help, fuelled her passion and led to her into starting a motivational social media account “Insulin Addict01” where she inspires, motivates, and advocates for those in similar situations.

In her free time Ané enjoys being active in nature.
