Bernard Kivuma
Tanzania & University of Cape Town, 2024 Bernard Kivuma completed medical school at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College, where he served as a chapter chairperson of the Tanzanian Medical Students’ Association. In his leadership, he orchestrated impactful initiatives like a blood drive that rallied 150 donors and fundraisers to secure health insurance for children battling with cancer. At his most recent role as the deputy head of the Chronic Diseases Clinic of Ifakara, he has been of service to people living with HIV in rural Tanzania where he served as a clinician and researcher. His journey has also led him to the role of Programmes Manager at the Disability Repro-Light Organization, where he's on a mission to break down barriers to sexual and reproductive health for people with disabilities. Bernard’s heart beats for a world where everyone, especially the most marginalized, can access personalized healthcare as a fundamental human right. He is passionate about initiatives that promote sexual and mental health for sexual and gender minorities. Bernard has held fellowships at prestigious institutions, where he has had the opportunity to collaborate and receive mentorship from experts and changemakers in his field at places like the Desmond Tutu Health Foundation, The International AIDS Society, and the GivingTuesdays global movement. Beyond medicine, Benard’s interests lie in music, travel, fashion, and self-care, you'll also find him lost in the glamorous world of Rupaul's Drag Race during his leisure moments. For Bernard, life isn't just about the white coat and stethoscope; it's about nurturing a balanced existence as a leader, researcher, and healthcare provider while never losing sight of one's true self.
