Curwyn Mapaling
South Africa & Stellenbosch University, 2015 Curwyn Mapaling hails from Uitenhage, a small town outside of Port Elizabeth, South Africa. He holds a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology and Community Counselling from Stellenbosch University. Currently, he works as a Public Service Clinical Psychologist at Fort England Psychiatric Hospital in Makhanda. Curwyn is pursuing his PhD studies at the Nelson Mandela University and his working title is ‘Academic Resilience of Engineering Students: A Case Study’. Since 2017, he serves as an Executive Committee Member of the Community and Social Psychology (CaSP) Division of the Psychological Society of South Africa (PsySSA). His notable achievements include being awarded an East and South African-German Centre of Excellence for Educational Research Methodologies and Management (CERM-ESA) PhD (Education) Scholarship (2019 - 2021), University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) Tirisano Training Project Scholarship (2018), Mandela Rhodes Scholarship (2015), and an Abe Bailey Travel Bursary (2014). Curwyn was also selected as a Brightest Young Minds Delegate (2016) and a Yenching Global Symposium International Delegate (2016).
