Foday Kamara
Sierra Leone & University of Cape Town, 2025 Foday is an environmental entrepreneur and sustainability advocate from Sierra Leone. He holds a BA (Honours) in Global Challenges from the African Leadership University (ALU) in Rwanda. Growing up in the Bumeh slum, Foday David’s mother’s experience with Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) inspired him to become an environmental champion. He founded Ecovironment, a social enterprise that recycles plastic waste into eco-friendly bricks and paving tiles, addressing plastic pollution and youth unemployment and promoting sustainable cities. Since its inception in 2022, Ecovironment has recycled over 450 tons of plastic waste, trained over 200 youths, and created 15 green jobs. Foday David’s work has earned him global recognition, including the Young Climate Prize, 776 Fellowship, the UN Habitat Scroll of Honour, and features in leading publications such as Meta Sustainability Magazine and Bloomberg Magazine. His mission aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and his enterprise aims to recycle 1 million tons of plastic waste by 2034. He looks forward to pursuing an MSc in Environment, Society, and Sustainability at the University of Cape Town (UCT) to deepen his expertise in environmental solutions for sustainable urbanism across Africa.
