Joanna Kahumbu
Kenya & University of the Western Cape, 2024 Joanna Kahumbu is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a passion for international trade and investment law in Africa. Based in Nairobi, she has worked at the Africa Legal Network as a lawyer, at the Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law as a Research Assistant, and as an international trade law consultant with Public Citizen, amongst various other research and consulting roles that have woven together a rich tapestry of experience. Her background in law, public policy, and international trade have nurtured within her a sense of wonderment and unwavering optimism, coloring her perspective on the continent and its potential for metamorphosis. Like an artist with a palette of disciplines, she views the canvas of life with sanguinity and hope. Through her writing and scholarship, viewed through the dual narrative of Pan-African unity and progress and Third World Approaches to International Law praxis, she has developed a keen sense of the continental challenges that beset intra-African trade and is determined to apply the knowledge she continues to acquire towards greater self-awareness, disciplinary upheaval, and institutional resistance and transformation.
