Josiah Muriuki
Kenya & University of Pretoria, 2025 Josiah is an award-winning social entrepreneur with a Bachelor of Social Science degree from The University of Pretoria. He is inspired by the mantra “To whom much is given, much is expected.” Josiah is committed to developing the next generation of leaders in his community. As a first-generation student, the Kenyan born scholar has relentlessly driven social impact in his community through Beta Mentor Africa, an organisation he founded in 2018 to help youth get convenient access to life-changing information, such as access to universities abroad. Utilising his scientific background, Josiah runs a community-based program called Tule Sote Initiative, which is Swahili, meaning “let’s all eat,” through which he aims to feed young school-going children from vulnerable backgrounds. This is inspired by his experience in his early days when he went to school without breakfast. He is currently serving as a board member at the Institute of Food Technologists Student Association (IFTSA) based in Chicago, USA. Beyond books and community service, Josiah enjoys hikes in the wild, cooking chapati, and public speaking. He also enjoys spending time with his family, especially with his sister, Beth.
