Matthew Beetar
South Africa & University of KwaZulu-Natal, 2008 Following my time as Mandela Rhodes Scholar I completed two Masters Degrees, and then a PhD at the University of Sussex in 2017. My research explored global development and society, focusing on the experiences of refugees and migrants from across Africa who had traveled to South Africa. It argued for new ways of imagining identities beyond 'nation building.' I spent 6 years in the education management sector overseeing communication and culture strategy, and currently work as a project manager and subject matter lead in the not-for-profit social housing sector.
