Meebelo Malama
Zambia & University of Cape Town, 2024 Meebelo Malama holds a Bachelor of Social Science, with distinction, from the University of Cape Town (UCT). Meebelo’s academic background is in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, and she believes that solving Africa’s problems requires interdisciplinary approaches. Her interests lie in disruptive technology, innovation, social entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. Meebelo has a proven track record of leadership at UCT where she served in various roles including being a Student Assessor for the Office of Inclusivity and Change, and a Student Coach for House Committee members. For two consecutive years, Meebelo was a Sub-warden at her previous residences where she led the mentorship, transformation, and culture program. She has taken part in UCT’s orientation leadership programme which helps international students assimilate in Cape Town. Meebelo was an Economics tutor for a third-year economics course which simulated the World Trade Organisation’s ‘Doha Development Round’. She is an active member of her community, and she volunteers at her local church. Born and raised in Zambia, Meebelo is passionate about seeing Africa actualise its growth potential through strategic leadership, community engagement, and youth empowerment. Meebelo is a natural storyteller, and she loves to create content on her digital platforms. She uses these spaces to share her hobbies and life experiences. As a Mandela Rhodes Scholar, she plans on pursuing a Master’s in Development Policy and Practice at UCT. Through her studies, Meebelo aims to help develop and implement policies that promote inclusive growth and poverty reduction in Africa.
