Zambia & University of Cape Town, 2024 Monica Phiri is a dedicated economic researcher with a keen interest in sustainable agriculture. She will pursue a Master's in Applied Economics at the University of Cape Town. Monica's focus is deep-rooted in examining the viability and sustainability of climate smart agriculture among Zambia's small-holder farmers. Her research also delves into the design and implementation intricacies of this concept, ensuring its tangible benefits to the community she is devoted to. Upon completing her Master’s, Monica has set her sights on contributing to Zambia's research community as she aspires to collaborate with notable research institutions. Her ambition does not stop at research; Monica plans to disseminate her findings widely, advocating for actionable, sustainable solutions in Zambia's agricultural sector through publications. By forging partnerships with both governmental and non-governmental bodies, Monica aims to enact policies and practices that align with Zambia's Vision 2030 – transforming the nation into an industrial middle-income hub offering enhanced well-being opportunities for all its citizens. Being a Mandela Rhodes Scholar is not just an academic accolade for Monica. It represents her commitment to harnessing leadership, fostering sustainable agricultural policy advocacy in Zambia and making a significant difference in her country and the African continent at large.
