Oluwaseun Makanjuola

Nigeria & Stellenbosch University, 2025

Oluwaseun completed his B.Agric degree at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria as an Undergraduate Research Fellow whose domain of research focused on Rural Development, Agribusiness, and Policy Evaluation.

Oluwaseun aims to use his agricultural expertise to utilize innovative practices within the agri-food sector to bring sustainable solutions capable of contributing to the fight against hunger in Africa.

He worked as an intern at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) where he conducted collaborative research in cassava breeding, improving the productivity of rural farmers. His experiences at IITA equipped him with practical skills in sustainable agriculture, agribusiness management, and policy evaluation.

He also volunteered with the IITA’s Start Them Early Program and the Impact Leaders’ Club, FUTA, where he brought the attention of young people to the critical role agriculture plays in addressing climate change and food security.

His passion for agriculture was ignited during a news broadcast, where he witnessed the effects of poor price regulation and government instability on food production in Northern Nigeria-inspiring him to explore the intersections between agribusiness, policy, and rural development.
