Philip Anderson Samura
Sierra Leone & University of Cape Town, 2024 Philip Anderson Samura is from Sierra Leone. He completed a BA (Honours) in Global Challenges at the African Leadership University (ALU) in Rwanda. He has a track record of achievements in youth leadership and environmental protection. In 2020, he was awarded the MAVA Scholarship for young leaders in conservation. He served as the secretary-general for the ALU Fellows of Conservation club and helped plan and implement the club's first career fair and World Environment Day. These events mobilized over 150 students and contributed to conservation skills and knowledge development. In 2022, he was elected Secretary of the ALU Student Representative Council (SRC) and was responsible for the overall operations and administration of over 1800 students. In December 2022, he was awarded the student Mentor of the Year. In April 2023, he served as a member of the 25-man technical committee for the seventh general assembly of the African Man and Biosphere Reserves Network. As one of the youngest members, he was responsible for communications and media engagements, which resulted in the participation of over 200 people from almost 25 countries. He represented ALU at the Young African Leaders Summit, Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting Youth Forum, Africa Protected Areas Congress, Swiss-African Business Case Challenge, and the Global Leadership Programme in Ghana, Rwanda, Switzerland, and the United States of America. He aims to pursue an MSc in Environment, Society, and Sustainability at the University of Cape Town (UCT).
