Ruth Kasanga completed a Bachelor's degree in Political Science in International Studies at the University of Pretoria (UP). Through her exceptional academic achievements, Ruth was awarded the Leiden University-South Africa Scholarship for an exchange programme in the Netherlands. In furthering her studies in International Relations, Ruth aims to break into the technology policy space. The transnational nature of digital technology proliferation with very little regulation nor a global standardised regulatory body necessitates a response. Ruth is ready to be part of the solution to ensure that technological progress does not come at the cost of human development.

Ruth has a deep interest in international affairs, global learning and public speaking and has competed in both Toastmasters International and Model United Nations conferences. Notably, she placed third in KwaZulu-Natal at the Toastmasters International Youth Contest, achieved the “outstanding delegate” award at Harvard University’s National Model United Nations in Boston USA, and coordinated the Model United Nations for UNASA UP.

Ruth’s passion for leadership development and empowerment has been displayed in various capacities. This led to her being an extracurricular and leadership consultant at a top global university admissions company. In this capacity, she assisted university applicants in building projects for social impact, thereby making her an integral part of shaping the leaders of tomorrow. She is looking forward to the MRF Leadership Programme to further hone her leadership skills for the benefit of her community and the world at large.
