Sheena Talma

Seychelles & Rhodes University, 2017

Sheena is a science and knowledge exchange programme manager at the Nekton Foundation. She also works as a freelance consultant with organisations like the Save Our Seas Foundation. She also serves voluntarily on several committees including the Sustainable Ocean Alliance and the Deep Sea Biological Society. A qualified marine biologist and deep-sea enthusiast, Sheena has a keen interest on learning more about the dynamics and relationship between people and the ocean. She is especially interested in how these dynamics change with the growing symptoms of climate change, overfishing and pollution. She is most interested in working within the science to policy nexus and aspires to work with collaborators to garner more deep-sea scientists within the Western Indian Ocean Region, further highlighting the need for science to be led by a more diverse group of collaborators.

Sheena Talma is a 2023 Shaun Johnson Memorial Scholar. Read more about the scholarship .
