Tahir Tayob
South Africa & University of Cape Town, 2025 Tahir holds a Bachelor of Business Science in Economics with Law from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, where he made multiple Dean’s Merit lists. He is a Golden Key Academic Honours Society member. At UCT, Tahir served his community in various roles, including Commerce Student Council Secretary-General, United Nations – UCT Chapter Secretary-General, and Student Parliament delegate, earning a UCT Plus Gold Award for his leadership contributions. Tahir's civic engagement began as Junior Mayor of Johannesburg, focusing on public health and gender-based violence reform. His central initiatives included a city-wide diabetes awareness campaign, for which he was invited to present at the Cities Changing Diabetes conference. An accomplished debater, Tahir has won several provincial and national tournaments and judged the National South African Schools Model UN. He has served as a Head Tutor in the School of Economics, as well as a short stint studying International Human Rights Litigation on exchange at Stockholm University. As a Mandela Rhodes Scholar, he plans to pursue a Master of Commerce in Economics at UCT, building on his current research regarding the efficacy of excise taxes in developing markets.
