Tiaan is a trained economist currently employed at Africa's largest economic consulting firm, Genesis Analytics. Since joining Genesis in April 2020, he has gained consulting experience in competition, regulation and policy matters providing advice to governments and firms in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa more broadly. Before Genesis, Tiaan worked in applied development economics at the South African Labour and Development Research Unit (SALDRU) and in economic policy analysis and survey research in the South African NGO sector. Tiaan is finalising a Master of Commerce in Applied Economics from the University of Cape Town. He holds Honours degrees in both Economics and Political Science from Stellenbosch- and the North West University, respectively. He is a United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER) Young Scholar (2019/20) and belongs to a Pan African network of Mandela Rhodes Scholars (class of 2018).
