Waheed Amanjee
South Africa & University of Cape Town, 2025 Waheed is an aspiring clinician-scientist-entrepreneur. He holds a BMedSci (Hons) in Bioinformatics and is currently doing his MBChB at the University of Cape Town as part of the Clinician Scientist Program. Inspired by his mother’s experience with chronic illness, Waheed is committed to reshaping healthcare through compassion and innovative research dedicating his life to bridging scientific innovation with clinical practice to address Africa’s pressing healthcare challenges. He co-founded, medical equipment start-up WiZmed where he leads efforts to democratize access to medical training tools for students across Africa. He is the Co-Chair and co-founder of the African Research Society where he helps shape the organization’s mission to bridge the gap between students and the research world. He is also a researcher with the Reach Alliance where he investigates service delivery to unhoused persons in Cape Town. Integrating clinical practice, research, and entrepreneurship, Waheed aims to live a life of purpose. As a Mandela Rhodes Scholar, he seeks to deepen his leadership abilities, fostering collaborative efforts to drive meaningful change in healthcare and education across Africa.
