Chimezie Anajama is a sociologist and development practitioner with a primary focus on public policy, good governance, education, social inclusion, and mass media. She is a Programme Officer in Policy Alert, Uyo – Nigeria, where she uses the tools of research, communications and advocacy for increased citizens and youth participation in legislative, policy and development processes in Nigeria. She is involved in projects such as Office of the Citizen, a radio programme which shapes development conversations among over 2 million citizens of Akwa Ibom State, Emerging Voices a programme which grooms young SDGs drivers in rural communities in Nigeria, and Niger and Delta Open Government Observatory (NOGO), an innovative governance hub that enables knowledge-sharing and implementation of Open Government Partnership (OGP) in the Niger Delta region. She is also the founder of Nwuliareads Initiative, an organization intervening in bridging the educational gaps among underprivileged and rural children in Nigeria.
She believes that young people are critical enablers of sustainability and a prosperous Africa; thus, their capacities must be strengthened through good policies and quality education for them to perform this role effectively. For her, being a Mandela Rhodes Scholar is a privilege that will deepen her worldview and problem solving capacities, in turn allowing her to raise young leaders in the sphere of the different thematic interests she works on.
