Gamuchirai Mudehwe

Gamuchirai Mudehwe is a final year LLB (Bachelor of law) student at Nelson Mandela University (NMU) in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Gamuchirai was born in Mutare, Zimbabwe.  He hopes to pursue a professional career specializing in the Law of Taxation, and International Trade Law.

Gamuchirai is currently working with the Department of Student Housing Living and Learning Programme, in the Entrepreneurs Programme and Residence Management.

During his time at NMU, he has been actively involved in Student Governance and Development, he served in the highest student decision making body, the Student Representative Council (2018). Elected to be the Faculty of Law Student Representative, he founded and chaired the Law Students Council. He also worked with the Law Student Society, the Black Lawyers Society, and the International Law Students Society. He was awarded the “Excellence in Leadership Award” by the Law Faculty Dean for his tremendous work in leadership (2019). Gamuchirai is a co-founder of the Toastmasters Society and served as its Deputy President.

Gamuchirai describes himself as “the future President of the United States of Africa”, stemming from his strong belief in creating a United Africa, that Africa will only reach its fullest potential when we come together as one. He hopes that with the Mandela Rhodes Scholarship he will be exposed to like-minded future leaders, and grow each other in leadership as they embark on the journey to achieve a better Africa and a better world.
