Godwill Mamhiyo

Zimbabwe, 2020

Godwill Mamhiyo is a former cricketer from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. He walked away from his childhood dream to play for his country when it was in touching distance. Moving to South Africa to pursue his studies is testament to his belief that education and sport have the power to unite and empower individuals or a nation.  He is passionate about cricket as it has been a blessing in his and also his family’s life. No surprise that he is passionate about children’s sports coaching as it provides opportunities and lessons that will mould them to become better members of society.

Given his background, university was a far-fetched dream, but thanks to Sports Skills 4 Life Skills (SS4LS), an NGO programme at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) this became a reality. He excelled on and off the sports field, captaining the UWC cricket 1st X1, being Club Chairman and pioneering a mentorship programme. In the classroom, he graduated Cum Laude in Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Finance and Information Systems in 2018. He went onto complete his Honours in Information Systems in 2019. He will be pursuing a Masters in Information Systems at UWC in 2020.

Godwill is passionate about community development and would like to use his leadership skills, education and sport to improve the quality of life for Africans.
