SOKOPO, Katlego

South Africa & University of the Witwatersrand, 2019

Degree of study:

Katlego is a young African who is interested in the intersection between legal practice, entrepreneurship and public service. In pursuit of his purpose, he has been an ad-hoc fieldworker at the Socio-Economic Rights Institute of South Africa (SERI-SA), where he has sharpened his prowess in public interest litigation, with a specialty in opposing evictions.
He also completed vacation work at Bowmans Attorneys in the Governance, Compliance and Investigation Department, where he learnt of, and undergirded his knowledge in, the intersection between corporate law and civil service.
In 2014 he completed an IT course at Microsoft South Africa and he developed an affinity with corporate work; he matriculated as the top learner in his school in the same year.
In his non-professional pursuits, he coached debate and public speaking at Adelaide Tambo Secondary School from 2015 to 2017. In the first year of this project, he was named best coach and adjudicator at the Junior Achievement South Africa Debate tournament in 2015.
He was also involved in various capacities with the Students for Law and Social Justice Wits and he entrenched his passion for human rights and social justice in that society.
Katlego has structured his career path to fully immerse himself in these broad, independent, yet interrelated fields.
