Linet Kimathi graduated with her Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Economics (Cum Laude), at the University of KwaZulu Natal in 2017.
She is a two-time TEDx event organiser and helped orchestrate TEDxUKZN 2017 and TEDxUniversityofPretoria 2018. She was instrumental in obtaining the license for the 2018 event, sourcing speakers and tackling the logistics involved in curating both experiences. A TEDx event is an independently organised TED event where live TED-like talks are given by notable speakers at local gatherings. TED Conferences LLC (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a media organization, based in the US and Canada that posts talks online for free distribution under the slogan “ideas worth spreading.” TED grants all licenses for TEDx events worldwide.
Linet has a passion for community engagement and was the 2017 Project Secretary of Enactus UKZN – the UKZN chapter of Enactus (Entrepreneurial Action Through Us), an organisation geared towards fostering SMMEs in local communities. The project she contributed to was CRS (Commit, Rebrand, Sustain), that paired with a local restaurant owner and helped her boost profitability and build a sustainable business.
In 2014, she was invited to join the Golden Key International Honours Society, which recognises scholars that place in the top 15% of their class.
In 2011 – 2013, she was a part of TeachOut, a project under the Non-Profit Organisation known as Ubunye that provides tutoring to disadvantaged high school students in the Cape Town area to aid and supplement them with their school learning. She was the 2013 Human Resources Coordinator where she worked to leverage volunteers for the project and managed all logistical aspects for coordinating TeachOut tutors.
She hopes to continue to take part in projects and opportunities that add value and help her grow as a leader, change agent for her community and continent. She’s also very much a dog person and thinks 15 second hugs are a crucial part of life.
