Shorok Sebaa

Egypt & University of Cape Town, 2018

Degree of study:
Masters in Clinical Science & Immunology

Shorok Sebaa is currently working on her project exploring the association between the immune compartment residing in the male genital tract and HIV acquisition. Driven by her amazement by the wonders of the world of viruses, Shorok aspired to research virology for as long as she could remember. It was her drive, her passion and her fulfillment.

She started her career after graduating from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Suez Canal University in Egypt 2012. She then continued on specializing in microbiology and immunology with a diploma 2013/2014. During this time, she had different work experiences in many disciplines that complemented her studies. She worked in Food and Water bacteriological analysis and supervision, infection control in hospitals and she also worked in the government’s initiative for Hepatitis C Virus screening and treatment. During her years working, she hoped to find wider prospects and opportunities through studying abroad and more research opportunities.

Aside from her research interests, Shorok has always been keen on committing to change in the community by giving children a better life. She worked on many projects involved in education and emotional support for underprivileged children and teens. A perfect job for her would be something that involves both healthcare and children.

Notably, she has the ultimate crazy love of cats. She likes wandering and losing her way in nature, photography and watching Japanese anime movies.
