Thabiso Beau

Thabiso Beau completed his undergraduate and Honours degrees in Economics at the University of Cape Town (UCT). With his research interests centred around international finance and financial economics, he presented his Honours research titled, “Financial Sector Development and the BRICS: South Africa’s position” at the BRICS Research Conference in 2018. Thabiso has served as a tutor and lecturer on undergraduate finance courses at UCT where he redesigned a third-year course and incorporated guest lecturers and networking opportunities from corporate South Africa.

Thabiso is a Fellow of the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation, which fosters leadership and entrepreneurial development of young high-impact leaders in Southern Africa. As a proponent of social justice, he served as the Vice-Chairperson of UCT RAG (Remember and Give), a student-run non-profit organisation that raises R1.5 million annually for its main beneficiary, SHAWCO. Furthermore, as the Vice-Chairperson on the UCT SRC’s Transformation and Social Responsiveness Sub-council, Thabiso piloted the university’s first-ever Transformation Month in 2015.

As a classically-trained violinist and actor, Thabiso is an alumnus of the South African National Youth Orchestra and has performed for dignitaries, including Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, and former South African president, Thabo Mbeki. Inspired to step into his power, Thabiso hopes to establish a philanthropic foundation in aid of making arts education accessible to underprivileged children.
