Deniz Mirembe
Uganda & University of Cape Town, 2024 Mirembe Deniz is an accomplished educator with three years of teaching experience and working with rural communities in the non-government space. She has a track record of inspiring and influencing change in the communities where she has worked. In 2020, Deniz was deployed to the rural community of Mayuge as a Teach for Uganda fellow where she worked for two years with a rural primary school to help combat early school exit, teenage pregnancies, and child labour. Deniz has volunteered as a project leader at The Huracan Foundation, a UK-based organisation for young people that utilises football as a catalyst for learning. Her expertise lies in increasing education access to children through programs like games, and menstrual health clubs. She has worked with young women and children in rural communities to realise their entrepreneurial power and ability to take care of their families and challenge the status quo. Deniz is dedicated to working with children and families in rural communities to increase their access to quality education. Her work with children in the rural communities of Mayuge has been featured on AI Jazeera English and Solutions Now Africa, M.A.Y.U.G.E (Footprints of Hope). She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Makerere University, where she excelled in Educational Technology Integration, and Cultural Sensitivity and Diversity. Deniz is passionate about education and its ability to change individuals who later change their communities.
