Moses Malebana
South Africa & University of Cape Town, 2024 Moses Malebana holds a Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours) degree in Medical Biochemistry which he completed alongside his medical studies. His current research involves the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) tools to help discover new drugs for Malaria in Africa, under the mentorship of Prof Kelly Chibale’s academic group at the University of Cape Town (UCT). Moses is passionate about progressing the medical field through innovation and technology while also passing knowledge through medical education. On a daily basis, he is either in the hospital interacting with patients, in the lab working on his research project, or in the dissection hall tutoring Health Sciences students in anatomy and physiology. He served as treasurer for the UCT Cardiac Society and the African Research Society (ARS). He also co-founded the latter with the aim of exposing students to research opportunities early in their careers. He is also a member of the UCT Golden Key Honours Society. He enjoys watching and playing football on weekends as he believes that apart from visiting his parents or going to church, there are very few things better than a good football match at the end of a busy week.
